Jansson (Joannes, Dutch, 1588-1664, also known as Janssonius); 'Nova Anglia Novum Belgium et Virginia', an early double page engraved map of the Eastern seaboard of North America, from Nova Scotia in the North to Cape Lookout in the South, showing the various European colonies of the time, c. late 1630's, including New York as 'New Amsterdam', the Hudson river noted as the 'Noordt Rivier' and Cape Lookout erroneously called 'Cape of Fear', with strong hand colouring on think paper, Dutch text verso, plate mark approx. 390mm x 505mm, unframed.
Provenance; The Alan Winning Collection of Antiquarian Maps, Books and Atlases. Beginning in the 1970’s with an interest in the 19th Century development of the railway network and the County Maps of this period that charted it, Alan expanded his academic interest into good early printed maps, town plans, travel guides, books and atlases and has been adding to his collection over the past 50 years.
